The Art of Racing in the Rain is a magically touching story of a pet dog, Enzo. Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain is really an amazing book described from the perspective of the dog, Enzo. I was looking for the kind of book that portrayed an animal’s life while I found this book. However, I was unsure if I would like the book so I read few The Art of Racing in the Rain book review from popular sites like Amazon, Goodreads and was amazed to notice many readers had loved the story. Getting along the text, I found just as we have always heard and experienced; dogs are men’s best friend, Enzo played his part as the best pet that he could ever be towards his owner Denny and his family. It must be a spectacular feeling to own a dog like Enzo who is protective, determined and loves racing.
Beginning at the chapter, Enzo is ready to accept what is to come next. He is old enough as well as doesn’t have the strength to be with Denny anymore and ready to bid ultimate goodbye to his owner Denny. This truly is a touching moment that shed a tear into my eyes, how he dies in Denny’s arm. During Enzo’s last moment, he takes us back to the very beginning of his puppyhood. Enzo is bought by Denny and lives a happy life through different part of their life journey. Enzo stands as the best companion through every phase of Denny’s life; from living an unmarried life with Denny to married life with Eve to their parenthood stage. In fact, Enzo grows to be the biggest doggy brother protecting Denny’s and Eve’s baby girl Zoe.
Everything seems to be going jolly till the moment. And my heart flutters with their happy life. However, things start to fall apart for Denny and Enzo. Eve is diagnosed with terminal illness and collapses of it. And that’s not the end, perhaps more suffering and obstacles block Denny’s and Enzo’s way. Denny is sued for Zoe’s custody by Zoe’s grandparents; Maxwell and Trish. Also, Denny is wrongfully accused of sexual assault (that never happened) by Annika; a teenage daughter of Eve’s cousins.
However, Enzo knows Denny is innocent and focused. Although Denny might face challenges into his path but he is focused and has eyes on the road, he can maintain a steady hold of his power and wheel. Enzo describes Dennye as a man that doesn’t play short games; in fact he plays to win. Sooner, Dennye is proved innocent in the case of Annika and also Trish and Maxwell drop their custody for Zoe. When the world was against Dennye, the only companion that stayed beside him was Enzo. And I could say how great a pet dog could be. It literally touches the heart and makes you feel warm and secure.
One more good news follow the trail, Luca Pantoni from Ferrari headquarters offers Denny a new job in Italy as a car tester and track instructor and as a bonanza point; a serviceable home, education for Zoe and chance for Denny to race again. However, at this point, Enzo can no further carry on for his family. He dies in Denny’s realizing ultimate sweet memory and believing to be born again as a human and meet Denny. I couldn’t hold my tears reading a death of such a great pal, Enzo.
At the very end of the chapter in Italy, a boy whose name surprisingly was Enzo comes to meet Denny and says that “Your car goes where your eyes go!” Denny was astonished to hear the same thing he used to say to his old pet Enzo. It was a surprising end; I believe it is Enzo’s reincarnation as a human.
This book is a must-read book by the pet owners besides everyone; as it shows the pet’s moment, reaction, feeling, view and helplessness while being along with the owner in his life journey. The Art of Racing in the Rain will definitely make you want to cuddle and hug your pets over and over again as it shares many such hilarious, and sweet moments. I really loved the book and will be definitely reading it over and over again.
