Lottery is a fictional story of Perry L. Crandall who has a state of lower IQ. Written by Patricia Wood, Lottery is a successful novel able to wrench the heart. Afterward, Perry’s one the closest friend Gary, lets him stay in a small apartment. Perry buys a lottery ticket from another closest friend Cherry which he wins and receives $12M. Now one more time his vulture character family enters his life and performs cheap tricks so that they could steal his winning. His skanky family tries to place schemes and trap him assuming as retarded but with his friends’ warning and wisdom, he thwarts every scheme placed by his family.
Perry began giving advice to Gary on her request to expand his business. And amazingly, it worked out. Although Perry lacked an honest and supportive family but he has his friends; Keith, Cherry, Gary and Gary’s family who became part of his new family.
This book is a true piece of Gem portraying the reality that sometimes friends are more helpful than family. Lottery also teaches us to treat everyone equally and keep alive the humanity. What’s more appealing is the way every chapter begins and we get to see the world from Perry’s point of view.
