‘Kilmeny of the Orchard’ is a novel written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, covering the story of young wealthy man “Eric Marshall” and a mute beautiful lady “Kilmeny Gordan”. The plot of Kilmney of the orchard book is based on Eric Marshall visiting Prince Edward Island as a substitute schoolteacher of his sick friend. And this is where his life changes. He is enthralled by Kilmney’s beauty.
The book is an entire package of drama, classic and romance. Although the story seems to be predictable, you will love to read the sweet flow and scene of the places full of cheerful blossom. Kilmney of the orchard book depicts Kilmney as a perfect lady with beautiful black hair, attractive blue eyes, and a talent of playing mesmerizing notes in the violin. However, she can’t speak. She loves to play her violin into a gorgeous yet deserted orchard where she meets the love of her life, Eric. Sweetness possessed by her and Eric’s friendly manner decorates the story with enjoyment. I actually enjoyed their development of romance.
Eric wants to marry Kilmney but she denies doing so even if she was in love with him too. She thinks she is not a perfect woman for ErIc until she cannot speak. Now the trouble arises for Eric as he has to try so hard for the first time to get what he wants. He definitely struggles to convince Kilmney’s uncle and aunty and Kilmney herself too. So he plans to call his close friend David Baker (throat specialist) to treat her throat but sees no hope as his friend confesses that it is a rare possibility as her organs are perfect but her psychology has detained her from speaking.
I felt how hard it had been for Kilmney to deny Eric to meet her anymore even if she loved him from the core of her heart.
“Do not come any more, Eric.” it ran. “I must not see you, because it would only make it harder for us both. You must go away and forget me. You will be thankful for this some day. I shall always love and pray for you.” – “KILMENY.”
And after getting the note, how much he suffered is unimaginable. One Tuesday evening Eric visits the old orchard again with no hope to see his sweetheart there. There he was attempted to be murdered by Neil Gorden blaming Eric had taken Kilmney from him. This climax brings a new twist into the story that will drive the readers head over hills.
